English 8 HP incorporates the California Language Arts Standards in the study of grammar, writing, poetry, short stories and the novels I Heard the Owl Call My Name, The Giver, My Brother Sam is Dead, The Diary of Anne Frank, Out of the Dust and two additional novels of their choice from the genres of science fiction and African American.  In addition honors students complete two research projects: a thematic poetry portfolio and a disease project related to aging and the elderly.
